GEOnet Names Server (GNS) provides access to the National Imagery and Mapping Agency's (NIMA) database of foreign geographic feature names. Approximately 12,000 of the databases 3.3 million features are updated monthly with names information approved by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names (US BGN).   Geographic Area of Coverage: Worldwide excluding the United States and Antarctica

National Geodetic Survey Data Sheets - Information about survey monuments on record with the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) is published in a Digital Survey DATA (DSDATA) format. The format consists of fixed field records in an 80 column ASCII text file.

How far is it? - This service uses the University of Michigan Geographic Name Server to find the latitude and longitude of two places, and then calculates the distance between them (as the crow flies). It also provides a map showing the two places, using the Xerox PARC Map Server.
