Nominees’ Biographies

(Slate of Nominees)

President

The Rev. Brian Eslinger is completing his eighth year of ministry with the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Ames (Ames, IA). Prior to entering the ministry he was active in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Minnetonka, where he taught in religious education, served on the board and chaired the pledge drive. Brian served a two-year part-time internship with the White Bear Unitarian Universalist Church. He has served on the PSD Nominating Committee, as a Director, and as Vice President.

Vice President

Kathryn L. Bowman has been a member of the Davenport Unitarian Church since 1976. Prior to assuming a leadership role as board clerk and board president, she served as chair of the social concerns committee and a religious education teacher. She has just finishing serving as interim DRE. She has also served as a trainer for Our Whole Lives (OWL) facilitators in PSD and also an OWL facilitator in her local congregation. She chaired the District Seventh Year Review Task Force. She has served on the PSD Board since 2001 having been Treasurer for the last two years. Kathy is currently attending United Theological Seminary on sabbatical.

Treasurer

Vickie Trott has been a member of Shawnee Mission UU Church, Overland Park, Kansas for seven years. In that time she has served as Treasurer, Membership Committee Co-Chair, and on the Ministerial Search Committee. She has an MBA and over 30 years experience in accounting and human resources management. She has been a Controller in both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Currently, Vickie is self-employed as an accounting and administrative consultant.

Directors

Rev. Nancy Haley has been minister at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Iowa City since 1997. Before that she was Interim Minister at Third Unitarian Church in Chicago. She served on the PSD Seventh Year Review Task Force to evaluate District services. Past President of Prairie Star District Unitarian Universalist Minister's Association, Nancy holds an MDiv from Harvard Divinity School and is currently enrolled in DMin program at Meadville Lombard Theological School. She has served one term as PSD Director.

Laura Schlatter is the Membership Coordinator on staff at Unity Church-Unitarian in St. Paul, MN where she has been a member since 1997. She has participated in technology planning for Prairie Star District and at General Assembly has led gatherings of Membership Coordinators. Laura has completed a UU Lay Leadership Certificate program sponsored by The Mountain and Starr King School for the Ministry. She has served one year as a PSD Director.

Nominating Committee

Rev. Fritz Hudson has been minister of the Unitarian Church of Lincoln, Lincoln, NE since 1998. He has served on the District Bylaws Committee and has served one term on the District Nominating Committee.

Midwest Unitarian Universalist Conference

Michael Smith is a member of First Unitarian Church, Des Moines, IA. He has served as a member of its board of trustees, has chaired the finance committee and canvasses, advised the youth group, and participated in many other activities. He served on the Prairie Star District Board including two terms as Treasurer.
